Jeff Bezos has taken aim at New York City's public school system, questioning how the city spends roughly $44,000 per student each year while academic outcomes remain poor and teacher pay stays low. The Amazon founder made the remarks during an interview on CNBC's Squawk Box, comparing the city's education administration to Amazon's operations, arguing that such inefficiency would not survive in a private business environment. "If we ran Amazon the way New York City runs their school system, your packages would take six weeks to arrive. We'd have to charge you a $100 delivery fee. And then when the package did finally arrive, it'd have the wrong item in it anyway," Bezos told CNBC. Where Does New York City's Education Money Actually Go? Despite the city spending around $44,000 per student annually, Bezos argued that very little reaches classrooms or teachers, with the bulk absorbed by administrative layers instead. Why Bezos Says Taxing The Rich Won't Fix The Problem Bezos also pushed back on raising taxes on wealthy individuals, arguing that political discussions often fall into blame rather than problem-solving. "What's happening here is politicians are using the kind of age-old techniques, you know, picking a villain and pointing fingers," he said, describing inequality as a "tale of two economies." Cockroach Janta Party has become the Internet’s biggest obsession this week, especially among Gen Z users who have turned the satirical movement into a full-blown online movement packed with memes, parody songs, reels, and endless jokes. Now, the viral movement appears to have spilt beyond the Internet and onto the streets.  In a bizarre turn of events, a man in Mathura took things quite literally and staged a protest outside a civic body office dressed as a cockroach. Yes, an actual cockroach costume complete with antennae, dramatic crawling, and full performance mode. Because apparently, regular protests are no longer enough in the age of viral politics. Man Dons Cockroach Costume For Protest A video of the man staging a protest has gone viral online. It opens to show the protester dancing outside the civic body office as a song titled Warna Cockroach Aa Jayega plays on the speaker. The track appears to be inspired by the popular song Warna Gabbar Aa Jayega by Manj Musik and Raftaar. He also painted his face and wore antenna-like props attached to his head to complete the look. Good time should come,” commented a third.  A fourth posted, “Someone should carry black hit.” About Cockroach Janta Party The Cockroach Janta Party, founded by Abhijeet Dipke, is a “political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth”. It started as a satirical online movement representing those who are “unemployed, lazy, chronically online, and able to rant professionally”. The official Instagram page has over 20.8 million followers and it even surpassed the follower count of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Instagram. Its X (formerly Twitter) account was briefly withheld in India, but the movement resurfaced shortly after with the new handle called “CockroachIsBack”. Authorities may take action against the movement’s Instagram page as well, although no official confirmation has been issued so far. Amid this, a new page has been setup, and it already has over three lakh followers on Instagram.  Abhijeet Dipke, CJP’s founding President, shared a fresh post urging people to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following the NEET paper leak controversy and reported student suicide cases. This comes after YouTuber Dhruv Rathee urged CJP to include the resignation in their manifesto.  Dipke has also claimed on social media that he has been receiving death threats amid the movement’s growing popularity.

OPINION | Gen Z Wanted A 'Real' Movement. It Got ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ Instead

Cockroach Janta Party: "There are youngsters like cockroaches who do not get any employment… some of them become media, some become social media, some RTI activists, and they start attacking everyone." These are the words of CJI Surya Kant, comparing unemployed young Indians to cockroaches. Hearing a plea linked to Senior Advocate designation, the CJI said judges were aware of social media attacks on the judiciary and warned lawyers against joining “parasites” targeting the system.  Sure, the comment rubbed me the wrong way too, but honestly, not as much as you'd think. What bothered me far more was what came after the comment, how our generation reacted to it, and, more importantly, who showed up to cash in on that reaction. Enter ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ If you're from my generation, yes, Gen Z, you probably have some idea of what this whole spectacle is about. One comment from the CJI triggered a massive backlash, mostly on Instagram. And by massive, I mean 14-million massive. Now let's get to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) manifesto. The official site lays out five 'promises’; you know, just in case they ever actually come to power:  No post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for Chief Justices. Strict action against vote deletion by the election authorities. 50% reservation for women in Parliament and Cabinet. Action against media houses linked to Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. A 20-year ban on politicians who switch parties. These aren't entirely unreasonable demands on paper. But notice what's missing: anything about jobs, education, or the actual problems young Indians are drowning in. The eligibility to join CJP isn't really eligibility in the traditional sense; it's more of an escape from reality.  If you're lazy, unemployed, chronically online, and can rant professionally, congratulations, you're in.  Tongue-in-cheek slop? 100%. An actual manifesto that promises actual changes? Ha! Just goes on to show how ‘serious’ a party CJP is. Abhijeet Dipke's ‘Interesting’ Background CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has a fairly impressive portfolio on paper. He studied journalism and public relations, then went on to pursue PR studies from Boston University. His work experience is where things get interesting. He was a political communication strategist who volunteered with the social media team of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was associated with their meme-based digital campaigns between 2020 and 2023, and helped create political and social media content focused on youth engagement. Keep that tucked away at the back of your mind. Currently, CJP is the most-followed political movement with 14 million Instagram followers. Their X (formerly Twitter) account was recently banned, and like clockwork, a new one went up almost immediately after.  Dipke also took to Instagram to allege that his account was being hacked.  Our Generation Is The Easiest To Lure, Like A Kid With A Lollipop Before you roll your eyes and think, "Oh, this is written by someone who doesn't even belong to us," relax. I'm 21. I'm right here with you. I hated CJI calling us 'cockroaches' too, but looking back, it was almost a compliment. We've survived everything. We are the most tech-forward generation; we find ways to keep going even when things fall apart. While the country was struggling through LPG shortages, our generation was diffusing tension with memes and reels. So yes, in a way, we are cockroaches: resilient, adaptable, impossible to kill. But one thing I've noticed over the years is just how easy it is to mislead us. When the Nepal protests were happening, plenty of so-called 'influencers' tried to rile our generation up; thankfully, that fire died down. But then came CJP. At first, I thought this, too shall pass. Instead, it spread like wildfire. Without a single background check or a moment's pause, millions of us started following the page, as if hitting that follow button was somehow making a difference. But once the storm settled, the wiser side of our generation started digging into Dipke’s background. We've been waiting for a leader from our own generation for a long time. Dipke found the perfect window, right between the NEET paper leak and the CBSE revaluation fiasco, when our generation's blood was already boiling. A 30-year-old millennial walked in and set up what looks a lot like an anti-BJP establishment.  Rather than focusing on the real needs of young people, Abhijeet seems far more occupied with defeating the BJP, in terms of Instagram followers, at least. Take a look at his old tweets; the pattern of going after the BJP is consistent and deliberate. CJP may have defeated BJP on Instagram, but in doing so, it also defeated the youth. My Dear Gen Z… Please Focus. I love being Gen Z. There is so much ahead of us: AI, new skills, new earning opportunities, you name it. But when I see my peers pouring energy into this instead of building themselves up, I find it hard to defend us when people question our generation. Our generation is dangerously easy to manipulate. Dipke is proof that we made him famous because he said the right things at the right time, without knowing his ideology, his motive, or anything else that actually matters. A few angry reels and a catchy name were all it took. But don't be surprised if Abhijeet ends up with a party ticket someday, probably from the very establishment he built CJP to oppose, which would make their own manifesto the first casualty.  And when that happens, the 14 million who followed him will have nothing to show for it except a follow on a dead Instagram page.

The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel Sarv Shakti, carrying approximately 45,000 tonnes of LPG, was tracked moving into the Gulf of Oman after passing near Iran’s Larak and Qeshm islands on Saturday. First Observed Crossing Since Blockade The vessel’s journey is the first observed transit by an India-linked tanker since the blockade sharply reduced shipping activity through Hormuz to near zero. Cargo, Ownership And Route Details According to a report by Bloomberg, shipping documents indicate that Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is the buyer of the cargo. The vessel had entered the Persian Gulf in early February and received its LPG cargo through a ship-to-ship transfer off Dubai, though the precise origin of the fuel could not be confirmed. Database records show Dubai-based Foresight Group Services Ltd. as the vessel’s manager, while ownership is linked to Zhe Yin Shan Zhou No. 4 Tianjin, which shares the same registered address. As the world’s third-largest oil importer and second-largest LPG consumer, India has been grappling with supply disruptions caused by tensions in the Gulf. Shortages of LPG have led to panic buying, long queues, and reduced consumption, forcing authorities to ramp up domestic production by around 60 per cent to 54,000 tonnes per day. Daily consumption has meanwhile dropped by about 10,000 tonnes to 80,000 tonnes, according to Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The situation worsened in April when Iran briefly reopened the strait but subsequently fired on vessels attempting to pass, forcing many ships to turn back. One India-linked crude tanker, Desh Garima, managed to cross only by switching off its transponder signals. Since then, traffic through Hormuz has largely stalled. India has managed to move eight LPG vessels through the passage during the conflict following bilateral engagement with Tehran and has been exploring alternative supply routes. A full transit through the strait typically takes 10 to 14 hours, though electronic interference in the region can distort ship-tracking data. The X6 was the first coupe SUV and started the trend that has since gained popularity. The X6 will come to India in the M60i form, powered by a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system. It will be positioned as a premium performance SUV within BMW’s India portfolio. The model is expected to feature large wheels and a strong road presence, while the unveiled version offers a glimpse of updated interiors. The design continues with the signature coupe-SUV styling, which remains a key highlight.
