A new post on Reddit has started a big discussion after one iPhone user claimed that Apple’s new iOS 26 update is killing their phone’s battery. The user, named Tasty_Discipline7280, said they “barely use their phone anymore” because the battery drains too fast. They even shared screenshots showing how quickly the battery drops after normal use. What Happened After Installing iOS 26? The Reddit user said that after updating their phone to iOS 26, the battery started draining very quickly, even with normal usage.  They shared that during a short trip where they used maps for navigation, their phone battery dropped from full charge to less than 20% before reaching their destination. The user also asked others for suggestions on how to improve battery life until Apple releases another update. Netizens React To iOS 26 Battery Drain After the post went viral, many other iPhone users joined the thread to share similar problems. One user under the name punto2019 wrote, “iOS 26 killed my perfect iPhone 16 pm battery. More than 1 year and it was 100% integrity. End of day at 60%. After iOS 26 it is 97% and 20% at the end of day.(sic)” Another said, “OMG I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME! Same with my 16PM! Upgrading it to iOS 26 was such a big mistake. Battery life is totally crap now! Lesson learnt: Never upgrade to newer version of iOS.(sic)” But not everyone blamed Apple. One user said, “He was driving while the iPhone was with the app displaying the map, add that to the heat of the road and that I’m pretty sure they got music and other things working, also cars don’t have fast charging and we don’t even know if he was using MagSafe charger.(sic)” Another replied to that comment with, “You being sarcastic right?(sic)” For now, there’s no confirmation from Apple about any battery issue in iOS 26, but many users online seem to agree that the iOS 26 update is causing battery drain on their iPhones.

By Jaspreet Bindra Artificial Intelligence today borders on the extraordinary. It can compose essays, write code, create art, and even simulate empathy or at least, it seems that way. As these systems grow eerily human-like, a deeper question surfaces: are we truly teaching machines to think, or just to perform a convincing act of imitation? To answer that, let’s look at how AI “learns.” Generative models don’t think in human terms; they possess no feelings, consciousness, or intent. Instead, they absorb massive amounts of data, text, images, and sounds and identify recurring patterns. When prompted, they predict what should logically follow: the next word, image pixel, or musical note. What appears as creativity is, in essence, prediction on a monumental scale. Still, the illusion is powerful. When ChatGPT writes a heartfelt poem, it isn’t feeling heartbreak; it’s statistically arranging words to mirror what heartbreak sounds like. When an AI “artist” creates beauty, it doesn’t perceive it; it replicates our interpretation of it. AI doesn’t feel or understand; it performs an exquisite act of mimicry, choreographed by algorithms and probability. This reflection is what makes AI fascinating because it mirrors humanity back to itself. It reproduces our genius and our prejudice, our imagination and our flaws. AI is not just a mirror of human intelligence; it’s also a reflection of our collective bias. In doing so, it forces us to revisit an age-old question: is intelligence about truly understanding, or about appearing to? Alan Turing explored this paradox in 1950 through his famous test if a machine can fool us into thinking it’s human, does that make it intelligent? For years, it was a thought experiment. Today, it’s everyday life. We interact with chatbots and digital assistants that pass the Turing Test with ease. Yet, they remain devoid of self-awareness. The truth is, our minds are wired to anthropomorphise to see consciousness where there’s only computation. So, the real danger isn’t that AI will think like us, but that we’ll start believing it does. As these systems become more capable, it’s crucial to remember what they truly are: powerful simulators of intelligence, not possessors of it. The line between imitation and understanding must never blur in our perception. Perhaps, though, imitation is the first step toward genuine thought, just as children learn through mimicry before developing reasoning. Could machines one day follow a similar path? Possibly. But for now, AI does not think; it reflects. It does not understand; it predicts. In that reflection lies both immense potential and real peril. Our goal, therefore, is not to humanise machines but to remain human enough to recognise when the reflection ends and reality begins. India on Thursday hit out at Pakistan for being “infuriated” by Afghanistan’s assertion of sovereignty, accusing Islamabad of believing it has the right to practise cross-border terrorism with impunity and calling such behaviour “unacceptable.” During the weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan appeared “infuriated” by Afghanistan’s assertion of sovereignty. “I reiterate what I had said in my last briefing,” Jaiswal told reporters. “Pakistan is infuriated with Afghanistan exercising sovereignty over its own territories. Pakistan seems to think that it has the right to practice cross-border terrorism with impunity. Its neighbours find it unacceptable. India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan.” Rising Hostilities Along the Afghan Border The MEA’s remarks came amid worsening relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan following the collapse of peace talks held in Turkey earlier this week. Both nations have accused each other of aggression, as cross-border skirmishes continue. According to Dawn, hostilities began on the night of October 11, when the Taliban government in Kabul accused Pakistan of conducting airstrikes inside Afghan territory — an allegation Islamabad has neither confirmed nor denied. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Issues Warning to Taliban Tensions deepened further on Wednesday after Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issued a warning to the Taliban regime, threatening possible military action inside Afghanistan. Speaking to reporters at Pakistan’s Parliament House, Asif said, “We will conduct strikes, we definitely will. If their territory is used and they violate our territory, then, if we need to go deep into Afghanistan to retaliate, we surely will.” He added that Pakistan had participated in peace talks “to give peace a chance” at the request of friendly nations, but described the Taliban’s statements as “venomous” and indicative of a “devious and splintered mindset.” Peace Talks End Without Resolution The failed peace talks in Istanbul, mediated by Turkey and Qatar, sought to address cross-border terrorism and reduce military hostilities. The four-day negotiations ended without any agreement or roadmap for de-escalation. Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that the discussions “failed to bring about any workable solution.” The talks were part of broader international efforts to calm tensions following several deadly clashes earlier this month. Ongoing Blame Game Between Kabul and Islamabad Islamabad has accused the Taliban of harbouring militants responsible for multiple attacks on Pakistani forces and civilians. The Taliban, in turn, has rejected these claims, alleging that Pakistan is violating Afghan sovereignty through repeated cross-border strikes. Explained: What New US Visa Rules Mean For Indian Professionals And H-1B Aspirants

Over the past few months, the Trump administration has introduced sweeping changes to multiple US visa systems — from halting worker visas for foreign drivers to ending automatic work permit renewals. These measures have significantly affected Indian workers, students and professionals, who make up a large share of America’s non-immigrant population. According to data from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), India was the largest source country for non-immigrants in fiscal year 2024, contributing 33 per cent of the total. Of these, 47 per cent were temporary workers and 30 per cent were students. In all, there were 11,90,000 Indian non-immigrant residents in the US that year. Worker Visas for Foreign Drivers Halted On August 21, President Donald Trump abruptly stopped issuing visas for commercial truck drivers following a fatal crash involving an Indian driver residing illegally in the US. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the decision on X, stating: “Effective immediately, we are pausing all issuance of worker visas for commercial truck drivers.” Rubio justified the move by citing the rising number of foreign drivers operating large trucks in the US, which he said was “endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers.” Federal data shows that the number of foreign-born truckers in the US more than doubled between 2000 and 2021. While over half hail from Latin America, drivers from India and Eastern Europe also form a sizeable group. Indian-American drivers, particularly from the Sikh community, have become a key part of the US trucking industry, filling critical labour gaps amid a longstanding driver shortage. Many families in California are deeply engaged in trucking businesses and truck stops. The visa halt has disrupted the plans of several Indians who had already invested in visa processes linked to the industry. New Student Visa Policy Introduced In late August, the Trump administration proposed a new rule setting fixed validity periods for F visas (for students) and J visas (for cultural exchange visitors). Under the proposed policy, both visa types would be limited to a maximum of four years, after which holders would need to apply for extensions to remain in the country. The rule adds hurdles for international students, exchange workers and foreign journalists. The number of Indian students going to the US had already halved this year, and the new restriction is expected to deepen the decline. Stricter Rules for Visa Interview Appointments On September 6, the US State Department revised its non-immigrant visa (NIV) policies, tightening norms for interview appointments. Applicants must now schedule interviews only at US embassies or consulates in their country of residence. Those attempting to do so elsewhere will face “higher difficulty in qualifying” for visas. The State Department also confirmed that visa application fees will not be refunded. For Indians, this means they must now book appointments within India, ending the earlier option of scheduling interviews abroad to avoid long delays. As a result, Indian applicants are expected to face months-long waiting periods for interview slots. H-1B Visa Fee Hike and Revised Rules On September 19, President Trump signed a proclamation increasing the H-1B visa fee to $100,000, effective September 21. Although the announcement sparked panic globally, the White House clarified that the new charge is a one-time fee, not an annual payment, and does not apply to current visa holders. The H-1B visa allows US firms to hire foreign professionals in specialised roles across IT, engineering, medicine and science. Typically valid for three years (extendable to six), it enables foreign workers to live and work legally in the US. The administration defended the fee hike as a way to ensure that “only highly skilled foreign workers, who cannot be replaced by Americans,” would qualify. Each year, the US issues 85,000 H-1B visas through a lottery system, with Indians comprising 70 per cent of recipients. Currently, around 3 lakh Indian professionals work in the US under this programme. A study, The Other One Percent, attributes the rise of Indian-Americans as the most educated and highest-earning immigrant group to the opportunities created by the H-1B system. However, the fee hike could deter companies such as Amazon and Microsoft that traditionally relied on the programme to recruit young Indian talent. As US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated, firms would now have to “focus on training Americans” if they wished to continue developing skilled workers. End of Automatic Work Permit Renewals On October 29, the Trump administration announced the end of automatic work authorisation extensions, a change expected to impact thousands of Indian professionals. Under the new Department of Homeland Security rule, foreign workers will lose their right to work if their visa renewal is not approved before their current permit expires. Previously, individuals could continue working after submitting renewal applications, even if their visas had lapsed. The new policy affects those on OPT (F-1 student visa), H-4 dependent spouses of H-1B holders, and applicants for permanent residency. For Indian families, this poses a direct threat to employment stability. Dependents relying on spousal work permits risk losing their jobs if renewals are delayed, potentially leading to income disruption and career setbacks. Broader Implications With these changes, spanning worker, student and professional visa categories, the Trump administration has effectively reshaped the landscape for Indian migrants in the US. Each measure, from higher costs to stricter renewals, underscores a tightening immigration regime that places foreign workers and students under growing uncertainty.

Approximately 5 to 10 percent of breast cancers are linked to inherited gene mutations like BRCA1 or BRCA2. This highlights a critical fact: over 90 percent of diagnoses happen in individuals without any known family history. The majority of breast cancers emerge sporadically, often influenced by factors unrelated to inherited risk. This common misconception: that you are safe from breast cancer just because you don’t have a genetic risk. This misplaced confidence can cause individuals to disregard other, more prevalent risk factors, including age, lifestyle choices, hormonal changes, and environmental exposures. Aging is one of the strongest risk factor, with the incidence rising sharply after 40. These affect the majority of women, not just those with hereditary mutations. To ensure better outcomes, public awareness needs to shift. We must recognize that regular screening and proactive awareness are crucial for all women, irrespective of their background or family history. Self-Awareness: Understanding Your Body A fundamental and highly effective method for early problem detection is to become intimately familiar with your own body. Women must regularly note their breasts' typical appearance and feel so that any subtle, unusual change can be identified quickly. For women who still menstruate, the ideal time for a self-examination is a few days after their period ends, when the breasts are least tender or swollen. Postmenopausal women should pick one consistent date each month to establish this important routine. During these self-checks, women should look for new lumps, thickened tissue, dimpling of the skin, variations in shape or size, any nipple discharge, or discomfort that does not resolve. Detecting these changes early and seeking medical advice promptly can make a crucial difference. When the disease is found early, the necessary treatment is generally less aggressive, and the odds of a complete recovery improve significantly. Professional Screening: The Vital Next Step While checking your own body is valuable, self-examinations are not a replacement for professional medical screening. For detecting breast cancer early - often long before symptoms ever appear - mammography remains the most essential tool. Typically, annual routine mammograms are advised beginning at age 40. However, women with elevated risk factors may require an earlier assessment. Expert-led clinical breast examinations are also essential; they provide a crucial layer of professional analysis that complements the findings from imaging. Each woman should consult with her doctor to create a screening plan tailored to her individual health profile. Regular check-ups ensure that any hidden or developing changes are discovered as soon as possible. A Call For Universal Awareness And A Shared Commitment Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history. This simple truth reinforces the need for universal awareness and proactive care. Personal vigilance, combined with timely professional screening and education, offers the greatest probability of early detection and, for the majority of patients, complete recovery. Promoting breast cancer awareness is more than a public campaign; it represents a shared, collective responsibility. By understanding the risks, staying alert, and prioritizing regular screenings, women everywhere can take the strongest step toward protecting their health and saving lives.
