From last Diwali to date, gold has glittered brighter than any other major asset class, delivering a staggering 53.8 per cent return. In stark contrast, equities have barely moved. The Nifty 100 TRI is up just 3.1 per cent, the Nifty Midcap 150 TRI by 2.7 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 250 TRI has actually declined by 4.9 per cent. With such striking outperformance, it is natural for investors to wonder if they should increase their allocation to gold this festive season. But before acting on that impulse, it’s worth taking a step back. Long-term perspective weighs above short-term sparkle Gold’s recent rally has been fueled by a mix of global and domestic factors including geopolitical tensions, sustained buying by central banks, and expectations of lower interest rates. A weaker rupee has also helped boost returns for Indian investors, making gold one of the most rewarding assets over the past two years. However, over a longer horizon, equities have delivered equally impressive results. Gold has returned 19.4 per cent CAGR over the last five years, but a large part of that gain has come only in the recent two-year window. During the same period, large-cap equities have delivered around 18 per cent CAGR, while mid- and small-caps have posted an even stronger 27–28 per cent CAGR. The long-term record shows that equities continue to be powerful wealth creators for patient investors. Winners rotate every year Another important insight from history is that the best-performing asset in one year rarely stays at the top the next year. In 2020, gold and silver were the clear winners, posting strong double-digit gains while equities lagged. The very next year, equities made a huge comeback with Nifty Smallcap 250 TRI jumping 86.7 per cent  while gold lost value. Now, in 2024–25, gold has once again taken the lead while stocks have paused for breath. This rotation underscores a key principle of investing: today’s winner can easily be tomorrow’s laggard. Chasing short-term performance often leads to disappointment. The case for diversification When it comes to building long-term wealth, diversification remains the smartest approach. Equities drive growth, gold offers protection in uncertain times, and debt adds stability. Each asset has its role to play, and no single one wins every year. The goal is not to guess which asset will shine next Diwali, but to build a mix that performs across market cycles. A diversified portfolio ensures participation in growth when equities rally, while providing protection during periods of volatility. This Diwali, it is tempting to add more gold after its stellar run. But the smarter choice lies in discipline and balance. Gold may be sparkling the brightest today, but lasting wealth is built by staying diversified and not by chasing the flavour of the season. By Sheeshram Yadav Gone are the days when ready-to-move-in (RTMI) homes dominated the wish lists of Indian homebuyers. Over the past few years, under-construction (UC) properties have gradually regained demand through increased transparency, timely delivery by branded developers, and also policy reforms. A survey conducted by Anarock has revealed that the demand for RTMI homes has dipped to its lowest level. During the first half of 2025, the ready home demand ratio over new launches fell to 16:29 from 20:25 during the first half of 2024. This change indicates fluctuating buyer confidence and shifting priorities in the real estate market. With the implementation of the Indian government’s Next-Gen GST Reforms from September 22, the debate over whether ready-to-move or under-construction homes offer better savings has gained renewed attention.  GST Impact on Ready-to-Move Homes One of the major pull factors for ready-to-move-in properties has always been the non-applicability of Goods and Services Tax (GST). As RTMI homes qualify as completed projects, GST is not levied upon their purchase. Stamp duty and registration fees are only paid by the buyer, which makes the whole process financially simpler. However, while the lack of GST renders RTMI houses cost-effective on paper, the overall ticket price of these houses is generally greater. The houses tend to come at a premium because of their ready possession, inherent quality, and guarantee against construction delays. So although there is no GST burden, the initial price of ready houses tends to be greater compared to that of their under-construction equivalents. GST on Under-Construction Homes Under-construction properties come under the GST range, but the latest changes are likely to alter their cost dynamics significantly. Earlier, buyers of UC homes paid GST at 5 per cent on usual housing (without input credit) and 1 per cent on low-cost housing. On top of that, developers were subjected to heavy taxes on raw materials such as cement, which was levied at 28 per cent tax.  The new GST system is bringing in a simplified two-slab system, reducing GST on cement from 28 per cent to 18 per cent. This cut itself is bound to reduce construction costs by 3-5 per cent. Developers will pass on some of these savings to consumers, perhaps reducing the price of homes by 1-1.5 per cent. For low-cost and mid-segment housing, this could be a big relief and greater affordability for would-be homeowners. Why Under-Construction Homes are Gaining Ground The increasing supply of new developments by well-known, listed developers is a key reason for the increasing demand for under-construction homes. Modern-day buyers are more confident in investing in ongoing projects by well-established names that are noted for timely delivery and adherence to regulatory standards. The transparency introduced by regulation reforms like the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) has also increased confidence in the space. As construction becomes cheaper with the GST reductions, developers will enjoy greater pricing power. This may mean lower prices for purchasers and enhanced prospects of appreciation in the long run. Which Option Saves More? When it comes to immediate savings, ready-to-move-in homes still remain the better bet because of the lack of GST. But this advantage is usually negated by the higher base price of such units. Alternatively, under-construction apartments, even though they attract GST, could turn out to be the more economical option in the longer term. With Next-Gen GST Reforms reducing the cost of construction and enhancing affordability, UC houses are expected to be more value for money, particularly in affordable and mid-segment housing. In a nutshell, for potential purchasers not in a rush to take possession, under-construction flats now seem to be the wiser option. Added to the lower entry costs, anticipated appreciation, and lower construction costs are their appeal over ready flats. New 2025 Tata Sierra Petrol And Diesel Launch Details

Tata Sierra could be coming soon to the market with a possible launch in November or soon. While not confirmed, we expect the next launch to be the combustion engined Sierra and the EV version could be coming later. The combustion engined Sierra was shown at the last Auto Expo and was one of the stars of the show. It was shown in near production form and finally it will be launching soon. Tata Motors has a long lineup of new car launches waiting in the wings and the talking point is the Sierra which is the most talked about. The Sierra will slot between the Curvv and the Harrier. The Sierra will be a 5 seater and will be Creta sized but with a distinct look as seen with the car at the Expo. There would be a boxy stance and some of the familiar design details as seen on the earlier Sierra but in 5 door form. The Sierra is expected to come with a turbo petrol 1.5l for the topend versions but also there would be a 1.5 NA petrol which could form a large part of the sales. The Sierra will also come with a diesel but the combustion engined version will not be coming with 4x4 most probably. The interiors meanwhile will come with a lot of features including three screens and more. We will know more soon but for now, the Sierra is not so far away and it is indeed coming soon. This SUV would be crucial for Tata as it will rival the current compact SUVs.
