However, the customs and traditions associated with Diwali vary significantly across different regions of the country. The Diwali 2025 puja is performed on Amavasya tithi during the auspicious Pradosh period. On 20 October 2025, the Pradosh time falls from 5:46 PM to 8:18 PM, which is ideal for performing the puja. Additionally, Vrishabha period is also considered highly favourable for worship, lasting from 7:08 PM to 9:03 PM. Performing the Diwali puja during these periods is believed to bring maximum blessings, prosperity, and happiness into the home. Diwali 2025 Puja Vidhi On Diwali, it is essential to perform the puja with complete rituals and attention to detail. Here is a step-by-step guide for conducting the Diwali 2025 puja at home: Set Up The Puja Area: Choose the east or Ishan (northeast) corner of your home for the puja setup. Place a small chowki (raised platform) and cover it with a red or pink cloth. Arrange the idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on the chowki. Placement Of Deities: Make sure to place Goddess Lakshmi on the left side of Lord Ganesha. Goddess Lakshmi’s worship is considered incomplete without Lord Vishnu. To represent Lord Vishnu, place a betel nut (supari) beside her idol. Beginning The Puja: Sit comfortably on the mat or floor. Sprinkle Gangajal (holy water) to purify the area. Light the diya lamps and apply haldi-kumkum tilak to the idols. Offer fruits, flowers, bhog (food offerings), and akshat (unbroken rice) to both deities. Do not forget to offer lotus flowers to Goddess Lakshmi and durva grass to Lord Ganesha. Kalash Setup: A clay kalash is set up on the right-hand side of the idols. Fill it with water, a coin, betel nut, kumkum, flowers, akshat, and five mango leaves. Cover the kalash with a lid and place a coconut on top, tying it with mouli and applying kumkum. Performing The Aarti: After offering all items, perform the aarti of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Ring the bell and blow the conch to complete the ritual. Keep at least five diyas on a plate and place them around the house to illuminate different corners. Attire Recommendations: While performing Diwali puja, avoid wearing dark colours like black, brown, or blue. Choose red, yellow, green, pink, or bright festive colours for your attire to enhance the positive energy of the occasion.

US President Donald Trump on Monday repeated his assertion that India won't be doing oil trade with Russia anymore, reiterating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had told him that he "is not going to be doing the Russian oil thing". He also warned of massive tariffs if India did not halt its Russian oil imports.  "I spoke with Prime Minister Modi of India, and he said he's not going to be doing the Russian oil thing," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. This is the third time this week that Trump has made this claim. On being asked about his reaction to New Delhi denying his claim of a phone call with PM Modi regarding India's Russian oil purchase, Trump replied by issuing a tariff warning. "But if they want to say that, then they'll just continue to pay massive tariffs, and they don't want to do that,” the US President said, as reported news agency Reuters. Trump Claims India To Halt Russian Oil Imports Trump claimed that PM Modi assured him India would halt oil imports from Russia, a statement that New Delhi later denied. He made the remark during an Oval Office address on Wednesday, describing India’s purported decision as “a big step.” He noted that about one-third of India’s oil supply comes from Russia and argued that such purchases help Moscow finance its war in Ukraine. The US has been pressing countries to cut energy ties with Russia, saying oil revenues fund President Vladimir Putin’s military campaign. Responding to Trump’s comments, the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said it was “unaware of any conversation” between the two leaders. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters that while energy cooperation with the US is an ongoing matter, there was no confirmation of any commitment to end Russian oil imports. Trump’s warning comes amid rising trade tensions, with Washington having imposed 50 per cent tariffs earlier this year on key Indian exports such as textiles and pharmaceuticals. The US president said those duties could remain, or even increase, if India continues buying Russian crude. Russia has emerged as India’s top oil supplier in recent years, accounting for roughly a third of its total imports. New Delhi has defended the purchases as a matter of energy security, emphasising that its sourcing decisions are based on national interest rather than political considerations.

The military said the strikes came in retaliation for “blatant violations” of the truce by Hamas militants. “In accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and following a series of significant strikes in response to Hamas’ violations, the IDF has begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire, in line with the terms of the agreement. The IDF will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and will respond firmly to any violation of it,” the IDF said in a post on X. Israel Conducts Air Strikes On Gaza Earlier Sunday, Israeli forces carried out extensive strikes on what they described as Hamas-linked sites throughout Gaza. The attacks targeted weapons depots, launch positions, and militant cells, as well as roughly six kilometres of underground tunnels allegedly used to plan attacks against Israel. According to the IDF, more than 120 munitions were used in the operation. The renewed military action followed attacks allegedly launched by Hamas militants in Rafah, southern Gaza. The IDF said that an anti-tank missile and gunfire were directed at its troops working to dismantle what it called “terrorist infrastructure,” acts it deemed clear breaches of the ceasefire. “Earlier today, terrorists fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire toward IDF troops operating to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the Rafah area. In response, the IDF has begun striking in the area to eliminate the threat and dismantle tunnel shafts and military structures used for terrorist activity. These terrorist actions constitute a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement, and the IDF will respond firmly,” the army said in another statement. Netanyahu Expresses Grief Over Death Of 2 IDF Soldiers Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep grief over the deaths of two Israeli soldiers who were killed in Rafah during the confrontation. “On behalf of the entire people of Israel, my wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the Nahal Brigade soldiers—Maj. Yaniv Kula and Staff-Sgt. Itay Ya'avetz, of blessed memory—who fell in the difficult incident in Rafah,” Netanyahu said.“I also send wishes for a speedy recovery to our wounded in that incident. Yaniv and Itay fought valiantly against the Hamas murderers to protect the security of Israel. Their courage and heroism will be cherished in our hearts forever. May their memory be for a blessing,” he added. Meanwhile, the Gaza Media Office said that 97 people have been killed and 230 others injured since the ceasefire took effect on October 10. In a statement posted on Telegram, the office accused the Israeli military of carrying out 80 “blatant and clear breaches” of the truce and international humanitarian law. Citing hospital sources, Al Jazeera reported that at least 42 Palestinians were killed on Sunday alone in Israeli strikes across multiple areas of the Gaza Strip. It was one of the deadliest days since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire went into effect. According to Gaza health authorities, despite the truce, the conflict’s overall toll has risen to 68,159 dead and 170,203 wounded since fighting erupted on October 7, 2023.

The FBI has since taken the investigatory lead, flying in resources to collect all evidence from the scene, and deploying our cell phone analytics capabilities,” he added. Nest Found During Security Preparations Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi said agents found the structure during their routine “advance security preparations” ahead of the President’s arrival. He noted that the incident did not disrupt any movements. “There was no impact to any movements, and no individuals were present or involved at the location,” Guglielmi told Fox News. “While we are not able to provide details about the specific items or their intent, this incident underscores the importance of our layered security measures.” The Secret Service said it is cooperating closely with the FBI and local law enforcement in Palm Beach County as part of the investigation. The heightened alert comes just weeks after Ryan Routh was found guilty of attempting to assassinate President Trump on a Palm Beach golf course. Operations Suspended After Crash, 11 flights Cancelled Following the accident, operations on the northern runway of Hong Kong International Airport, which is one of the world’s busiest air cargo hubs, were suspended. Airport officials said flights would continue using the central and southern runways. At least 11 cargo flights that were initially scheduled to arrive at the airport on Monday have been cancelled, according to the Airport Authority's website. The crash occurred around 3:50 AM local time (1950 GMT Sunday), moments after the Emirates-operated cargo flight EK9788 touched down. Emirates later confirmed in a statement that the Boeing 747 sustained damage during the landing and that it had been wet-leased from Turkey-based ACT Airlines. “Crew are confirmed to be safe and there was no cargo onboard,” the airline said. ACT Airlines, which provides additional freight capacity to global carriers, did not immediately issue a comment outside its regular operating hours. Hong Kong's Government Flying Service has deployed helicopters above the affected runway, while Fire Services Department vessels also took part in the rescue.
