New Delhi [India], March 24 (ANI): A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck the South Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). Sharing the details in a post on X, the NCS said that it occurred at a depth of 210 kilometres. "EQ of M: 7.5, On: 24/03/2026 10:07:48 IST, Lat: 18.694 S, Long: 175.500 W, Depth: 210 Km, Location: South Pacific Ocean", the post said.This comes shortly after an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 rattled across the South Pacific Ocean on Sunday, as per a statement by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). In a post on X, the NCS said, "EQ of M: 6.1, On: 22/03/2026 20:57:59 IST, Lat: 15.353 S, Long: 172.824 W, Depth: 10 Km, Location: South Pacific Ocean." Earlier in December last year, a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.0 struck the South Pacific Ocean. "EQ of M: 6.0, On: 28/12/2025 08:21:51 IST, Lat: 8.93 S, Long: 78.90 W, Depth: 67 Km, Location: South Pacific Ocean", the NCS said. No reports of damage have come so far. The world's greatest earthquake belt, the circum-Pacific seismic belt, is found along the rim of the Pacific Ocean, where about 81 per cent of our planet's largest earthquakes occur. Swiggy Raises Platform Fee By 17 Per Cent Swiggy has revised its platform fee to Rs 17.58 from Rs 14.99, marking a 17 per cent increase, reported NDTV Profit. The updated charge is now visible on the app, where users are informed that the fee supports the company’s efforts to "operate and maintain the Swiggy platform". This is not the first time the company has raised its fees. The last revision came in September, when the platform fee was increased by 20 per cent to Rs 14.99. The latest hike, however, comes at a time when consumers are already dealing with broader cost pressures, making even small increments in everyday spending more noticeable. Zomato Had Moved First Swiggy’s decision comes closely on the heels of a similar move by its main competitor, Zomato. The company recently increased its platform fee by 19 per cent, translating into an additional Rs 2 per order. With this, both Swiggy and Zomato now have near-identical platform fees, standing at around Rs 17.58, including GST. AWS Data Centres In Bahrain & UAE Hit By Drones, Amazon Confirms Service Disruption

Amazon has confirmed that its Amazon Web Services region in Bahrain has been hit by a disruption linked to drone activity in the area, amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The company said it is helping customers move their workloads to alternate AWS regions while recovery efforts continue.  Amazon did not share specific operational details but confirmed it is working to restore services as quickly as possible. The development comes after a series of similar incidents that have raised serious questions about the safety of cloud infrastructure in the region. How Earlier Drone Strikes Damaged AWS Data Centres In UAE & Bahrain This is not the first time Amazon's regional infrastructure has come under threat. On March 3, AWS data centres in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were damaged by drone strikes, disrupting cloud services and making recovery "prolonged." Two UAE facilities were directly hit, while a drone strike near a Bahrain facility caused physical damage to infrastructure. "These strikes have caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage," AWS said in a status update cited by Reuters. AWS said it was working to restore full service availability but expected recovery to take longer due to the physical damage involved. Several AWS services were affected, with customers advised to back up critical data and shift operations to unaffected regions.  Financial institutions using AWS infrastructure were also among those impacted, according to one person with knowledge of the situation who spoke to Reuters. Amazon has acknowledged that the operating environment in the Middle East remains unpredictable. Bahrain Tables UN Resolution Over Strait Of Hormuz Shipping Threats Separately, Bahrain has put forward a draft United Nations Security Council resolution that would authorise countries to use "all necessary means" to protect commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal describes Iran's actions as a threat to international peace and security, and calls on the country to stop attacks on merchant and commercial vessels and stop interfering with freedom of navigation in the waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route, carrying about a fifth of global oil supplies. The draft is backed by Gulf Arab states and the United States, but diplomats told Reuters it is unlikely to pass because Russia and China could veto it. The text also expresses readiness to impose measures including targeted sanctions, and falls under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter, which allows the Security Council to authorise actions ranging from sanctions to the use of force. Separately, three US officials told Reuters that 2,500 Marines, along with the USS Boxer amphibious assault ship and accompanying warships, would deploy to the region, though their specific role has not been detailed.
